Lanes converge

Lanes converge: what it means

Sign GS451, GS454

What it means

A diagram shows that a curved multi-lane carriageway converges with (comes together with) a straight multi-lane carriageway, from the left or the right. There is no decrease in lanes.

What you must do

Make sure in time that there is a big enough gap in the traffic to merge with the traffic. Also yield (give way) to other traffic which might merge.

Remember

Two carriageways come together, with no decrease in lanes.

Test yourself

  1. Question 1

According to the diagram on a Lanes converge sign, what converges with a straight multi-lane carriageway?

    • A A single lane that comes to an end
    • B A curved multi-lane carriageway
    • C A side road at an intersection
    Show answer

    Answer: B: A curved multi-lane carriageway

The Lanes converge sign shows a curved multi-lane carriageway converging (coming together) with a straight one.

  2. Question 2

    True or false?

A lanes converge sign indicates that the carriageways converge with a decrease in the number of lanes.

    Show answer

    Answer: False

At a Lanes converge sign the carriageways come together without a decrease in lanes.

  3. Question 3

At a lanes converge sign, a driver must make sure in time that the gap in the traffic is big enough for what purpose?

    • A To overtake the vehicle ahead
    • B To stop on the shoulder of the road
    • C To merge with the traffic
    Show answer

Answer: C: To merge with the traffic

At a Lanes converge sign, the gap in the traffic must be big enough for you to merge.
