A painted island prohibits (does not allow) driving in the area it marks.
What you must do
Do not stop on, park on or drive over the island, unless one of the three exceptions applies.

On any road.

Keep off the island: no stopping, no parking, no driving over it.
You may stop on, park on or drive over a painted island only:
- on the orders of a traffic officer or police officer
- to avoid a collision
- in an emergency
