These lines show an area before a pedestrian crossing where you may not stop.

What you must do

Look out for pedestrians who may cross the road, and slow down. Stop for pedestrians crossing the road. Do not overtake inside this area.

Where you see it

On any road before a pedestrian crossing.

Remember

Never overtake a vehicle that has stopped at a pedestrian crossing.

You may stop in this area only for pedestrians, or for a vehicle that has already stopped.

Do not overtake a vehicle that has stopped at any pedestrian crossing.
