What it means

This sign prohibits pedestrians (people on foot) from going past it. Past the sign they could be a danger to themselves and to vehicles.

What you must do

As a driver, still look out for pedestrians, even though they are prohibited on this road. Pedestrians may not enter or cross a road where this sign is displayed.

At the beginning of and at entrances to any carriageway, lane or path.
