Steep ascend and steep descend

Steep ascend and steep descend: what it means

Sign W322, TW322, W323, TW323

What it means

The road ahead will climb steeply (ascend) or go down steeply (descend).

What you must do

Be aware of slow-moving traffic, particularly in mountainous areas with sharp curves. On a descent, allow for a longer stopping distance, especially when your vehicle is heavily laden (carrying a heavy load).

Where you see it

On any road, but especially in mountainous areas.

Remember

Going down, with a heavy load, you need more distance to stop.

The road can go steeply up or steeply down. Look at the sign in front of you to see which it is.
